Singapore Through The Eyes of a Tourist

Wondering if she would be hit by the
Light Rail Transit (LRT) near my place -
a shuttle service found in certain estates/suburbs.

Anca arrived in Singapore from England last Friday, timed so that she could enjoy the Chinese New Year festivities of the Orient. It was a trip that was meant to happen last year, but was unfortunately cancelled as I was whisked away to Australia suddenly.

Her first meal in Singapore
- a plate of rice and mixed vegetables.
She was so tired from the 19 hour flight
that we decided to take it slow on the first day.

It has been wonderful to see a dear from whom I haven't met in more than a year. To catch up on old times and get updates on the latest in our lives. To lose sleep because we were chatting till 4am in the morning, talking as if we had never been apart. And to take her around the country I grew up in, looking at it through the eyes of a tourist.

After church on the second day of her arrival, we decided to visit the Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery. It's interestig to look at things through fresh eyes, to see something and not shrug off as something I grew up with, but to actually look at it and realise just how fascinating and beautiful it actually is.

People pray to this horse in the hopes
that it would help them win 4D, a kind of lottery.

It was a trip that could not have been timed better.
Due to the upcoming Chinese New Year,
there was a chanting session that included members of the public.

There were red packets with names hanging under the lanterns.
Presumably it's something to do with good luck.

My mother! Thankfully she came with us.
With my lack of knowledge about the Chinese culture,
she managed to enlighten both Anca and I with the
ongoings of the temple.
