Not always close

I'm not sure about you (if you are a Christian, that is), but have you always assumed that your walk with God will always be there?

By that I mean, you don't really expect that there'll be times when you just don't feel like talking with God.

You're uninspired and unmotivated to do anything perhaps even remotely God-related.

There is an underlying relationship you have with Him that will always be there. You love him, you know he exists, but you just...cannot be bothered.

God's there, but not as close as He used to be.

You know you ought to try harder, and yet at the same time, you're really not trying any harder.

That's where I am right now.

I like to think that God and I are on a break. I don't feel that we've forsaken each other, I'm probably just in need of some serious time out.

I'm not angry with him and I certainly still believe that he is my saviour.

I'm just...tired.

I think we go through similar things in all relationships. Churches can tend to make us think that we should always 'be on a high' with God and always 'living in victory' but I think we all know that it's not like that.

If youwant to grab a book that's easy to read and may help you, check out Mad Church Disease by Anne Jackson. It's honest and helpful.

Maybe you could spend the extra free time in the kitchen!

Anyway, don't listen to Rodney Olsen, and ignore 'Mad Church Disease'.

Read Leviticus 26: 14-38.

Not only should you take a break, you should run and hide.

(In all seriosness, when lethargy overtakes me, long isolated walks (like, really long), particularly in cold weather, does the trick for me. Preferably a bush or a beach walk. No I-Pod. Just the sounds of nature. It inspires...)

i hear you mel
and despite what some might say or how you might feel, it's okay

to everything there is a season
including being 'tired'

if you take Rodney up on his book suggestion, I know a place with comfy lounges in front of a woodfire that has great natural light for reading

if you take Perseus up on his suggestion, I know a place that has a ninety mile beach - now that's a long walk in nature :)

but if you're tired, you probably don't feel like travelling, so perhaps you can create your own soulspace right where you are

and that starts by simply acknowledging where one is at right now, so you're off to a good start

Rodney - the book sounds intriguing. Will have to grab myself a copy :)

Perseus - need to find time for a walk first!

Kel - you're too sweet :) life is slowing down a little for me now so it's not too bad. Soulspace - my knitting :D I'm sure you know that already.

I go on a three week holiday in three weeks - hanging out with my brother. I think that will revitalise me! :)

Ooh, I thought of another idea. Convert to atheism. Believe me, it's a whole lot easier.
